Just nod if you can hear me

Annyong.
Bosho.
Hello.

In high school, I was the outcast. The wallflower, if you will, and believe me I did not find any perks in the label. My love of black clothing defined me as a "Goth" and my sometimes purple hair gave people the impression that I was a punk. However, neither was as much of a social death sentence as being a geek. I loved video games and was an active member of a graphic design community. I enjoyed Manga and still think that any Shakespeare adapted to a graphic novel format is genius. For about 3/4 of my high school career I was obsessed with Lord of the Rings and was convinced that Billy Boyd (Pippin, the cutest hobbit) was my one true love, if only he'd visit the U.P.! (Fun fact: he was recently less than ten minutes outside my college town but I was unfortunately in my home town. Chance officially lost.)

I get ahead of myself - I am speaking (typing) as if all of this was in the past. I still love tales of hobbits, elves and wizards. I beat Ocarina of Time a couple weeks ago for the hell of it. I own a Hyrulian Crest wallet. The main difference between then and now? Geek chic is in. Don't believe me? Watch the season 3 finale of IT Crowd (Calendar Geeks. Brilliant. While you're at it, watch ALL of IT Crowd. Now.) I am able to connect with most of my students because I'm a geek. I can reference Harry Potter, Bones, or Pokemon in almost every lesson, just to name a few. At first I thought the students were sympathetic and saw my nerdiness as a disability. I was terrified it would be high school all over again. Turns out, though I didn't change the world around me did. The geeks shall inherit the earth, as the Good Book says (people will try to tell you it's meek, but it was just a typo that lasted through the ages).

Thank goodness I was wrong.

My goal with this blog: celebrate geeks everywhere via fashion, beauty, food, drinks, entertainment... anything that is remotely geeky. Beware: literature and history are considered acceptable topics. My apologies in advance.

Live Long and Prosper, my friends. Until next time.
